Between July 31st and August 3rd 2014 citizens of the Republic of Turkey will be able to vote from abroad for the first time. This is also the first time in Turkey’s history that the president will be elected directly by the people. Interested in learning more about the candidates and elections procedure? What are the expectations, concerns, and hopes of Turkey’s voters? Do you have questions about a political party or candidate? To discuss these issues the Turkish Policy Center (TPC) will be holding a panel and round table discussion between 6:30pm-8:00pm on Friday July 18th. We will be bringing together all representatives of Turkey’s political parties that have representation in the U.S. as well as a CHP delegation visiting the U.S. specifically for election purposes. Speakers will include:
- Aykan Erdemir, CHP Member of Parliament (Bursa)
- Faik Tunay, CHP Member of Parliament (Istanbul)
- Yurter Özcan, CHP Representative to the U.S.
- Mehmet Yüksel, BDP Representative to the U.S.
- Adil Yiğiter, MHP Representative in the U.S.
It doesn’t matter which party, political view or candidate you support: we hope to see all voters and those interested in following Turkey’s elections at our meeting. Our goal is to enable voters to cast their votes in an informed manner.
